Oxfam-trained paramedic Aleya Hossain Alo holds up a birth delivery kit…
“During flood I move around with a medical team and take care of medical issues. I bring medicines from government hospitals like iron, saline, paracetamol, antibiotics. I have a first aid box from [Oxfams partner] SDS and distribute delivery kits amongst the local traditional birth attendants, who are also trained by SDS. The delivery kit includes a polythene sheet, a blade and thread to cut the umbilical cord, gauze, gloves and some soap.”
During the flood, Oxfam paramedics work with Oxfam-trained traditional birth attendants to ensure that all the pregnant women give birth safely. The paramedics also promote general health and hygiene awareness in the community.
