Margaret Nakwanje cleaning out the cow pen. The cow was given to her by Oxfam partner, SHMPA. Margaret explains how life has changed since she received the cow: “‘If I didn’t have the cow I don’t know what I’d do. I can’t see how I could run any other business, as I’m single and with the kids to bring up. If SHMPA hadn’t assisted me, things would be hard. I wish they could help more single mothers like me who live in this district, and who don’t have any form of assistance or support. Getting regular money from the milk means I can afford simple things – like soap! I’m really happy with that, and I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to Oxfam; ‘thank you for supporting SHMPA’. Before, we couldn’t even afford soap, and I just used to have to wash myself and the kids with water! Can you even call that bathing’ I don’t think so.’
