Local innovative solutions for an inclusive green growth in Jordan

Within the framework of the Green Innovation Projects as part of the European Union support to Green Economy in Response to the Syrian crisis in Jordan 2021 – 2024, Oxfam, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute is implementing the project « Local innovative solutions for an inclusive green growth in Jordan ».

Specifically, it addresses issues related to waste management, water, local/rural development, circular economy, youth empowerment and creation of green jobs in Za’atari Camp and host communities in Mafraq Governorate, Jordan

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

To promote the implementation of new practices related to organic waste and grey water generated by target households in selected communities

Activities:

  • ➜ Demonstrative actions on organic waste management and greywater reuse in Za’atari Camp and Mafraq communities
  • ➜ local campaign on organic waste use as a valuable resource for local development
  • ➜ Local communities’ and refugees’ capacity building

 

To support local enterprises in surrounding host communities implement circular economy practices integrating waste streams into their production cycle

Activities:

  • ➜ Financial support to circular economy small and medium enterprises
  • ➜ Coaching to circular economy enterprises and development of case studies on circular economy

 

To investigate the feasibility of scalable and bankable investments for the government of Jordan for the management of organic waste and recommend them to key stakeholders along with business models

Activities:

  • ➜ Assessment of demonstrative actions
  • ➜ Feasibility study and business models of green economic opportunities for organic waste in Jordan

 

To increase the understanding and awareness of Government, private actors and community members on sustainable local circular economy practices

Activities:

  • ➜ Country-widedigital awareness campaign
  • ➜ Publication to disseminate circular economy practices in Jordan
  • ➜ Workshops for local and national authorities

CALL FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES – open

Oxfam, in partnership with Global Green Growth Institute Jordan , are seeking applications from Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) working in the circular economy sector in Jordan to apply for an opportunity for sub-granting to expand and improve their green business models!

SMEs working on Circular Economy in Jordan can request up to 45,000 € to support their business.

CALL FOR PROTOTYPES – closed

We are looking for universities, Innovation labs, Small and Medium enterprises to develop 2 kinds of prototypes for the project!

What? ➜ the prototypes of an electric trolley for the collection and transportation of household waste materials (organic and recyclable waste) & a safe household composting unit that can be used for the production of organic compost at the household level.

Where? ➜ in Za’atari Camp and Mafraq municipalities.

With how much funding? ➜ up to 20,000 € for the electric trolley & up to 10,000 € for the household safe composting unit.
