Migration toward Europe results in damaging brain drain to developing countries, losing young and motivated people. To encourage migrant population to play an important role in the development of origin countries, Oxfam Italia, together with partner Italian NGOs, is facilitating Albanian diaspora living in Italy to take part inthe Albanian socio-economic development, promoting initiatives that include Italian and Albanian civil society in both countries. Moreover, partners are supporting Albanian Local Authorities to improve their policies in four strategic developing sectors: social services and services for jobseekers, renewable energies and new technologies, agriculture and food processing, and tourism.

Activities implemented by Oxfam Italia focus on thevalorisation of local products, creation of a network among farmers, craftsmen, restaurateurs, hotelier and institutions to promote the tourism and the culture of the North regions of Albania. Evaluation analysis of Northern Albanian local products identified honey and medicinal herbs as best two traditional products to start the valorisation of local products with and promote the local natural resources.
Today, Oxfam Italia is working with beekeepers and producers of medicinal herbs in Rec and Dedaj villages on building their capacities in production of honey and medicinal herbs.
