Solidarity Wheels – January Update

Name of the organization: Solidary Wheels

Title of the project: Social and Legal Assistance for People on the Move and Advocacy on the Southern Border: Melilla

Date of the update: January

A young man born in Melilla, holding a Spanish birth certificate but never granted legal residency, faces bureaucratic barriers preventing him from completing his curricular training.

Despite having access to education due to his historical registration in Melilla, he lacks a residence permit and, therefore, a Social Security number.

With Spain now requiring Social Security registration for internships, he is unable to complete his mandatory practical training. Solidary Wheels is assisting him in applying for arraigo para la formación (residence for training purposes) while simultaneously requesting a cédula de inscripción, a substitute identification document for those without passports (as detailed in our latest report).

With proof of his residence application and an expired passport, we aim to secure his Social Security registration, enabling him to complete his studies and access his right to work.
