At the official ceremony held on 07 May 2013 in Dubrovnik participants of the School for beekeepers have been awarded Vocational certificates for beekeeping.

This School, partially  financed by the Canton, is part of the activities under the project “Valorization of honey in Dubrovnik-Neretva Canton”, which is part of SeeNet programme.

The Certificates have been awarded by the prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva Canton, Mr Nikola Dobroslavic, who congratulated the participants, emphasizing also the importance of the education for further development of the profession.

“ Thanks to the Regional development agency DUNEA, this project, as part of the larger project by the Italian Government, is implemented in our area, while I am specially pleased that in its activities we have included the beekeepers, too,” said the Mr Dobroslavic.

The School was attended by 130 beekeepers, in four locations: Metkovic, Putnikovici, Slano i Cavtat.

The School was organized as a response to the needs that were identified through the analysis of beekeeping sector, which was also implemented under the SeeNet programme. Under the same programme the cooperation was established with the Italian experts, through seminars and study trip of 15 beekeepers to the North of Italy, while further work was invested in the improvement of the honey quality, commercialization of the bee products, as well as establishment of the Centre for promotion, tasting of honey and other traditional products of the region, as well as Education centre for honey.

The booklet “ HONEY – gold of the nature”, created under this project, was also presented at the Award ceremony and given to the beekeepers for further distribution to the customers.

This project is implemented by Oxfam Italia, in partnership with Regional development agency DUNEA, Dubrovnik – Neretva Canton and Community of beekeepers associations of Dubrovnik – Neretva Canton.
